The development of Burg Grotesk began between as part of a new visual identity for "the Burg". Andrea Tinnes, who has taught at the university since 2007, used her existing typeface PTL Roletta Sans as a foundation for this project. While PTL Roletta is known for its rounded, soft terminals, Burg Grotesk was re-engineered with sharp corners at its stroke terminals to give it a more precise, institutional character.
