Your computer needs enough space to hold the files you plan to edit offline. Step 1: Install the Google Docs Offline Extension Open the Google Chrome browser.
A Chrome extension is required to bridge the gap between cloud and local storage.
Navigate to the Chrome Web Store and search for the extension. Click Add to Chrome to install the extension. Step 2: Enable Offline Access in Google Drive Go to drive.google.com in Chrome. Click the Settings gear icon in the top right corner. Select Settings . Scroll down to the Offline section.
Files available offline will not appear grayed out. You can open, edit, create, or delete them.
Check the box that says: "Create, open, and edit your recent Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files on this device while offline" .

Offline editing functionality is designed primarily for Chrome.
