Downloading a VMDK (Virtual Machine Disk) file from a vSAN datastore is slightly different than standard VMFS storage due to how vSAN handles objects. This method automatically handles the conversion of vSAN objects into standard VMDK files and compresses them for easier transfer. Method 3: Command Line (PowerCLI or ESXCLI)

The most straightforward way to retrieve a VMDK is through the native vSphere Web Client's datastore browser. Log in to your vCenter Server.

Click the Download button. You will receive a warning that the file will be downloaded as a .stream.vmdk .

Click on the Files tab and find the folder belonging to the virtual machine.
