Depending on your goal, there are three primary ways to acquire this file. 1. The Official Biopython Repository

Benchmarking, learning Biopython, and testing sequence alignment algorithms. Where to Download Orchid.fasta

The orchid.fasta file contains DNA sequences from the Cypripedioideae subfamily of orchids. It specifically includes sequences of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, which is a common molecular marker used for identifying species and studying plant evolution. FASTA (text-based sequence data). Contents: Approximately 94 orchid sequences.

Ensure your Python script is in the same folder as the downloaded file.

The most efficient way to process orchid.fasta is using the Bio.SeqIO module.

The quest for orchid.fasta usually leads to one of two places: the official NCBI database or, more commonly, the starter tutorials for the Biopython library. This specific file has become the "Hello World" dataset for bioinformatics students worldwide. What is Orchid.fasta?

The sequences in the orchid file originate from GenBank (accession numbers Z78433 to Z78532). If you want the most up-to-date or raw data directly from the source, you can search NCBI. Z78433:Z78532[Accession] Format: Select "Send to" > "File" > "FASTA". How to Open and Use the File

You can download the file programmatically using Python’s urllib or requests library. This is the best approach for reproducible research or automated scripts.

    1. If you file your tax return electronically, you should not have to print it. You can keep an electronic copy for your tax records.

  2. I am seeing conflicting information about the standard deduction for a single senior tax payer. In one place it says $$16,550. and in another it says $15,000.00. Which is correct?

    1. For a single taxpayer, the standard deduction (for 2024) is $14,600. For a taxpayer who is either legally blind or age 65 or older, the standard deduction is $16,550. For a taxpayer who is both legally blind AND age 65 or older, the standard deduction is $18,500.

For 2025, the standard deduction for single taxpayers (without adjustments for age or blindness) is $15,000.
